Things to Do in Denver Colorado: 35 Best Attractions in 2026

Denver receives more than 300 days of sunshine annually, is precisely one mile above the sea level, and also somehow combines the urban culture of the city with the mountain energy. I came to this place without knowing what to do in Denver Colorado and frankly speaking the most difficult thing was to reduce the lists of what I like.

This handbook encapsulates the best things to do in Denver in 2026, including the most popular places as well as places that tourists should not overlook. I have you covered whether you are seeking fun activities in Denver as a single person, family outing or a free experience. This is your Denver to do list.

Top Denver Attractions and Landmarks

Vibrant collage of Denver landmarks like Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Meow Wolf, Casa Bonita.

There are places of attraction in every city and Denver is not an exception. These are the Denver attractions that I will always suggest to first think of since they do live up to their promises. There are some of them that are world renowned, others that were underestimated but they all make me have my way of perceiving this city. And this is the point you should make if you are creating a list of the tourist attractions that Denver visitors adore. These landmarks will continue to drag you back once you determine what to do first in Denver.

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre

Sunset at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, red sandstone, empty steps, mountains behind.

And make it Red Rocks, should you do but one thing on this list. It is a 9,525 seat Amphitheatre which is hewn out of natural 200 million years old red sandstone. In 2025, it had 1.75 million paid fans across 236 events, becoming the most attended amphitheater in the country. Already in the 2026 lineup are 150+ shows. Although you may not be a concert person, the geology is enough to make it one of the top things to see in Denver.

This is the best part that most of the guides miss: to get the best out of Red Rocks, the concert tickets are not necessary. During non event days, the park is free between 5am and 11pm. I enjoy the steps in the stadium as early as in the morning when it is very quiet. Tours of visitor centers are approximately 6 dollars a person. Layers: Denver sightseeing is done at an elevation and after sunset the temperatures decrease rapidly. I have been found not dressed up well enough on several occasions.

Meow Wolf Convergence Station

Interior of Meow Wolf Denver, colorful portals, tunnels, hidden rooms, surreal immersive art.

This is the location that fractured my brain in an excellent manner. The Denver branch of Meow Wolf’s Denver location is an immersive art event that covers an area of 90,000 square feet and occupies four levels and 79 distinct installations constructed by more than 300 artists. The way you walk through portals, crawl through tunnels and find hidden rooms which must seem as zero logical sense. It is among the unique things to do in Denver that I have discovered in the whole country.

The price of the tickets is approximately 46 dollars per adult, but Colorado residents will spend approximately 35 to 40 dollars. Perplexiplex venue within is where the concerts, drag shows and comedy nights are held and that is one of the Denver attractions that keeps luring me back as an adult. Allow at least two or three hours, but actually you can spend all day here and not see everything. I have already visited three times and continue to discover new rooms. Wear comfortable shoes since you are going to be climbing, crawling and walking much more than you think.

Casa Bonita

Indoor waterfall at Casa Bonita, cliff divers, performers in costumes, festive restaurant interior

You may have heard of this one and you certainly would have been watching South Park. Casa Bonita is a 52,000-square-foot restaurant with a 30-foot indoor waterfall, real cliff divers, wandering performers, and food that is now legitimately good after South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone spent more than 40 million dollars to undergo renovations. The chef is Dana Rodriguez who is a James Beard nominee and has transformed the menu entirely.

Reservations are no longer conducted in a lottery but they tend to fill quickly hence book early. This is not just dinner. It is a full blown experience. When you are making a list of fun things to do in Denver Colorado, Casa Bonita would be at the top of the list. Casa Bonita Mi Amor is a Paramount+ documentary that documents the whole story of the renovation. I suggest viewing it prior to receiving an invitation since it will make the entire situation more enjoyable.

Denver Art Museum

Denver Art Museum exterior, Daniel Libeskind architecture, modern angular design.

Denver Art Museum occupies the Hamilton Building, a jaw dropping building that was designed by Daniel Libeskind, and I must say, it has taken me immensely long before I could finally get to visit. The adult price is 19, however, this is one of the tips that save actual money: all people aged 18 and younger are free of charge every day. The museum will be closed on Wednesday, as of June 2025, therefore plan ahead. A number of SCFD sponsored free days are organized on an annual round-the-year basis as well.

Their exhibition includes all the Indigenous art up to modern installations. The show of the first big American Pissarro retrospective in 40 years is the current highlight on which art nerks are flying in specifically to view. This is certainly one of the best places to visit in Denver Colorado especially when you like art museums. The present shop is remarkably good as well. I have purchased a number of prints beyond what I likely need to do.

Colorado State Capitol

Colorado State Capitol golden dome, Mile High marker, marble interior, classic architecture.

One of my favorite things to do in Denver that I would like to take out of towners to see is a free tour of the Colorado State Capitol. The place is beautiful, the only eye-catcher being the 13 th step on the west entrance. That marker is precisely 5,280 feet above sea level and thus it is the literal Mile High marker. Everybody makes a photo there and you should make one as well.

The dome is manufactured of actual gold leaf within, and the interior walls are lined with the whole known store of Colorado Rose Onyx, a gorgeous wild flex in a state edifice. The dome observation deck has views of downtown as well as mountains. It is among the most preferred free attractions sites in Denver Colorado and most people pass by it without the slightest idea of what they are missing.

Denver Museum of Nature and Science

Denver Museum of Nature and Science exterior on a sunny day, modern architecture on a hill, Denver skyline and Rocky Mountains in background, wide angle travel photography

This is a free museum located on a hill overlooking skyline and mountain views in its rooftop Anschutz Family Sky Terrace. Inside, adult admission runs $22.95. The museum is usually available all day long and opens at 9am and closes at 5pm except on Fridays when it opens at 9pm and closes at 9pm. The Largest Dinosaurs traveling exhibit is open since March 20 to September 7, 2026, and it is quite spectacular.

Personally, I love it the most since any age group can use it. Children run crazy over the dinosaur exhibits, grown-ups adore the planetarium and all the people are crazy about the gems and minerals hall. Also, it will be closed April 15, 2026 to be significantly remodeled, the Coors Gems and Minerals Hall. This is the answer to the question of what you can do in Denver during a rainy day. The visit itself is justified by the IMAX theater.

Union Station

Union Station interior, Beaux-Arts style, people walking, coffee shops.

Union Station is a free area of visit and worth the visit. This is a beautifully renovated train hall of Beaux Arts built in 1914 which is surrounded by restaurants, bars, independent bookstore, and the Crawford Hotel, which is stylish. It also serves as the primary transit center of RTD, linking to Denver international Airport, taking the A Line at approximately 37 minutes at a cost of 10.50 per way.

I prefer to take a coffee in Pigtrain and sit there and people watch in the Great Hall. There are beautiful holiday decorations that are here in winter and the entire building smells glorious during the Christmas market season. Union Station grounds activities in Denver downtown and offers a natural connection to LoDo, the Larimer Square, and 16 th Street pedestrian corridor. It is the ideal beginning of the day sightseeing in the city.

The Big Blue Bear (I See What You Mean)

"Big Blue Bear statue outside Colorado Convention Center, bright day, city skyline.

This 40 foot blue bear statue looks up to the Colorado Convention Center and it is quite good to be honest this is one of the most photographed things to see in Denver. This bear is the unofficial mascot of Denver and was created by an artist by the name Lawrence Argent. It is also free to access and a perfect Instagram photo at any time of the day. In case you are wondering what to see in Denver Colorado, Blucifer in the airport and the big blue bear downtown are the two iconic points of interest that you cannot afford to skip their photo opportunities.

Things to Do in Denver Downtown

Lively downtown Denver scene with Union Station, 16th Street pedestrian corridor.

Much of the action is in downtown. These three are my suggestions to go with the things to do downtown Denver specifically. It is even possible to walk between all of them in one afternoon not to complicate planning what to do in downtown Denver even in the course of a short trip. The question I usually receive is what to see in Denver Colorado first and I always begin with downtown.

Walk the Renovated 16th Street

16th Street Denver pedestrian mall, granite paving, outdoor dining, modern street design, people walking, trees lining street, vibrant downtown atmosphere

Denver has recently undergone a massive redevelopment of its historic pedestrian street, 175.4 million dollars worth, and now it is now simply called 16th Street with a catchphrase of The Denver Way. The new design will have 950,000 granite paving, an approximate 200 new trees, broader 28 foot pedestrian lanes, and central running transit lanes. The free FreeRide shuttle continues to operate the entire 1.25 mile route between Union Station and Civic Center Station all day.

This is the most appropriate place to be to do whatever around me when you are staying downtown and want to dine, shop, and watch the people in one place. Pedestrian traffic has been restored to 85 percent of the pre pandemic level and the atmosphere has improved significantly compared to the years of construction. I will suggest to begin at the Union Station and walk south. And in case you enjoy visiting areas in cities that can be walked, the list of things to do in NYC pedestrian areas is another personal attractiveness of mine that incorporates the same vibe.

Explore Larimer Square

Larimer Square Denver at night, Victorian brick buildings, glowing string lights overhead, outdoor dining, elegant urban atmosphere, warm golden lighting

The block of Denver is the oldest and the most beautiful one, which is called Larimer Square. The Victorian buildings are occupied by luxury restaurants and boutiques and also some of the finest cocktail bars in town. It is enchanted with strings of lights in the night. It is among the destinations one should consider visiting in Denver no matter the event. Date night, explore on your own or even dinner with friends, it never fails.

During weekends it is very busy with a slightly older and well-dressed crowd. I prefer to go on a weekday when one can at least get into restaurants without a reservation. Rioja and Bistro Vendome are my two favorites here. The Larimer square is one of the places that one cannot afford to miss in Denver as far as one loves architecture, food, and atmosphere. It also makes it one of the most appropriate activities to undertake downtown Denver at night.

Denver Performing Arts Complex

Denver Performing Arts Complex exterior at night, illuminated modern architecture, city skyline backdrop, elegant evening atmosphere

DPA boasts of being amongst the largest performing arts complexes in the country comprising 10 performance spaces. Phantom of the Opera, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and The Lion King will be part of the 2025/26 Broadway season. To enjoy some fun things to do in Denver for young adults on a dating night with young adults, it is difficult to beat attending a show here. The building is located directly in the Arts District, meaning it is within a walk to get dinner or have a drink.

Best Denver Neighborhoods to Explore

Colorful streets of Denver neighborhoods, RiNo murals, LoDo nightlife, Highland skyline views.

The neighborhoods are distinct in Denver. One of the cool things to do in Denver that can assist in viewing the city the way locals view it is exploring them. Bypass the tourist destinations and stroll the ones. This will be where you will discover the places in Denver Colorado that are genuine and not made to impress the visitors.

RiNo (River North Art District)

RiNo Denver street art mural, colorful large-scale graffiti on brick warehouse wall, trendy urban neighborhood, young creatives walking, bright daytime photography

My favorite neighborhood in Denver is RiNo which is the most stylish one. There are now 10+ breweries in the former industrialized warehouses in two miles, world class street art murals that rotate every season, Denver Central Market, The Source Hotel, and The Mission Ballroom based on concerts. It is like a living gallery taking a stroll here. This is one of the most intriguing activities to engage in in Denver by both the creatives and the foodies.

I tend to start at Denver Central Market with my lunch, proceed across the murals and finally find myself in Ratio Beerworks or Cerebral Brewing. This neighborhood has transformed to a great extent over the past few years and continues to improve. Art walks in First Friday art walks in this place are amazing. RiNo is a neighborhood that will never fail you, especially when you are on a hunt of unique things to do in Denver Colorado.

LoDo (Lower Downtown)

LoDo Denver at night, historic brick buildings, neon bar signs, lively nightlife crowd, glowing street lights, vibrant downtown energy

The oldest area in the city of Denver is LoDo and the epicenter of nightlife in Denver. It has almost 100 restaurants and bars set in a walkable grid anchored by the Union Station and Coors Field. The game days here are electric, particularly during the times that Rockies are playing. You will be able to add this neighborhood to your whole list of things to do in Denver, particularly when you are fond of craft cocktails and live music.

Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill Denver street scene at dusk, historic apartments, colorful murals, lively nightlife atmosphere

The most eclectic section of Denver is the gay and lesbian community, Capitol Hill, where Colorado has several dive bars and live music joints, Colfax Avenue, and Molly Brown House Museum where the renowned Titanic survivor resided. Colfax is even referred to as the longest and the wickedest street in America and it still contains that insubordinate spirit. To do adult things in Denver with an edge start here.

Highland and LoHi

Highland Denver skyline overlook at sunset, modern homes on hill, downtown skyline view

Highland is located on top of a hill that overlooks the downtown with the best views of the skyline in the city. This is a paradise of food lovers with such renowned restaurants as Linger, global street food in a refurbished mortuary, and Little Man Ice Cream, with its 28 foot milk jug building and iconic status. The restaurants here are usually a step higher and the traffic is also not as heavy as downtown.

The Highland Bridge pedestrian walkway has beautiful sunsets. When you like to experience the unique neighborhoods in the city, as I do, you will likewise love visiting things to do in Savannah GA historic district has to offer, as a completely different, but no less charming, ambiance. Highland is one of the places to visit in Denver Colorado that is a haunt of locals to a certain extent.

Cherry Creek

Cherry Creek Denver upscale shopping district, tree-lined streets, luxury boutiques

Cherry Creek is the prestigious shopping and gallery area in Denver which has more than 300 shops. Compared to downtown, it is subtle and more refined and is a pleasant surprise. Among the most notable Denver colorado activities that art enthusiasts should not miss is the Cherry Creek Arts Festival that is held every summer. There are also thousands of good brunch places and daytime spas, so it is also good to relaxing things to do in Denver when you have to slow down.

Santa Fe Art District and Five Points

Denver First Friday Art Walk, colorful murals, art galleries open at night, lively street

The Santa Fe Art District is the location of the biggest First Friday Art Walk in Colorado featuring over 30 galleries, various live music and food trucks. Five Points, or as it is also called the Harlem of the west, has a self-guided jazz history walk tour and serves some of the best soul food in town. Both are Denver experiences that cannot be found anywhere in any guide of tourists. These neighborhoods are the deepest roots of the Denver culture.

Outdoor Activities in Denver

Sunny outdoor Denver, Cherry Creek Trail, City Park joggers, Sloan’s Lake paddleboarding.

Denver has a trail system (more than 80 miles) comprised of urban paths that have been built and enhanced with paving and the weather is also more favorable than anticipated (300 days of sunshine). These will keep you within the city meeting the need to be active in Denver without necessarily having to drive to the mountains. The city provides all you need be it activities to be done in Colorado Denver in an outdoor setting or even you want to have a morning jog with the mountainous scenery, the city offers it to you. It is in fact the altitude that makes outdoor exercise to be more difficult, so take it easy during the first two days.

Cherry Creek and South Platte River Trails

Denver riverfront bike trail, skyline in background, cyclists and runners on paved path, sunny Colorado day, active outdoor lifestyle photography

Cherry Creek Trail is 40 miles and South Platte River Trail is 36 miles long, both of which are tarmac and can be used to run, bike or walk through. They are linked with the High Line Canal Trail which is 71 miles in length and is among the urban trail, which is the longest in America. I run the stretch of South Platte around the Confluence Park several times a week, and it is never tiring. A fine place to start is Confluence Park where the Cherry creek and the south platte intersect.

B cycle bikes are available in rental kiosks within downtown in case you do not have your own equipment. The tracks are in good conditions and marked well. These paths are definitely among the best fun activities to do in Denver. Weekends bring weekend traffic on the paths and therefore mornings are the best.

City Park and Washington Park

Denver park with lake and skyline view, joggers on path, green lawns, mountain backdrop

City Park has an area of 330 acres and contains Denver zoo and Museum of Nature and Science. The Wash Park which is popularly referred to as Washington Park, has a favorite 2.25 mile loop which is filled to the brim with joggers and bicycle riders every weekend. The two parks are free and ideal in picnics, pick ups, or even lying on a blanket and reading. These are the type of cool stuff to do in Denver that the locals live through.

Sloan’s Lake

Sloan’s Lake at sunset, calm water reflection, Denver skyline and mountains, paddleboarder silhouette

The lake of Sloan is the largest lake in Denver at 177 acres and it could be the least known place in the city. You may kayak, paddleboard or simply walk the 2.6 mile loop trail and have an interruption-free view of the downtown skyline and mountains. The sunset here is more than magnificent. It is among the cool places in Denver which locals know well yet tourists very seldom come across. The area surrounding the lake also has very good restaurants and coffee shops.

Ruby Hill Park

Ruby Hill Park Denver skyline view, grassy hill with city backdrop, outdoor concert stage setup

The park of Ruby Hill is worth mentioning. Here, in summer, there are 50+ free outdoor performances in Levitt Pavilion. During the winter season, the hill will be transformed into a free urban terrain park where people can ski and snowboard with the help of a partnership with Winter Park Resort. Free. Skiing. In the city. It was not the first time I went there because I could not believe. This is the type of fun Denver activities which makes Denver appear no like any other city that I have resided in.

Fun Things to Do in Denver for Adults

Nightlife and craft beer in Denver, rooftop drinks at sunset, RiNo brewery, Coors Field baseball with mountains.

The food, drink, and nightlife in Denver has been on a rampage over the last few years. The Michelin Guide comes to Colorado in 2023, and it lifted the standards of all the people. These are my favorite activities in Denver to do as an adult who is passionate about good food, good drinks, and good times out. In case you have been asking yourself about fun things to do in Denver that is not the usual tourist attraction, then this section is applicable to you.

Craft Brewery Tour

Denver craft brewery interior, flight of colorful beers on wooden table, industrial taproom setting

Denver is a capital of craft beer and truthfully one of the best beer cities in the world with more than 150 metro-based breweries. I prefer Cerebral Brewing which was rated best brewery in Colorado in 2025, Bierstadt Lagerhaus with their famous five minute Slow Pour Pils, Wynkoop Brewing which is the first brewpub built in RiNo, and Great Divide which has been the mainstay of the scene since 1994.

The Great American Beer Festival strikes Denver in every October and gathers nearly 60,000 visitors of different regions of the world. It would be possible to spend a whole trip merely having a fun activities in Denver brewery crawl through RiNo. These entertainment happenings Denver revolved around craft beer are virtually a domestic custom. Hint: most of the breweries are dog friendly and provide food truck nights making it not solely about the beer. The brewery trail guide of Visit Denver’s brewery trail guide will have a map route.

Denver Food Hall Crawl

Modern Denver food hall interior, string lights, communal tables, diverse food vendors

The food hall scene in Denver is a valid claim of being one of the best in the nation and a key reason why the local cuisine image of the city has flown. RiNo Denver Central market has 11 local vendors within a single roof. Avanti Food and Beverage consists of seven shipping container restaurants where people can have fantastic rooftop views of the downtown skyline. Stanley Marketplace is a 50+ business located in an old aviation building in Aurora. The Dairy Block Denver Milk Market has 16 restaurants by chef Frank Bonanno. They all are absolutely different in the atmosphere and audience.

I would suggest going to Avanti at sunset and having drinks on the rooftop then Denoting Denver central market to have a dinner. This is one of the things for adults to do in Denver that is not that expensive. Essentially replicating these 2026 restaurant launches are Austin Hai Hospitality expanding its Uchiko into Cherry Creek and former Frasca chefs with Casa Juani. The Denver food scene is only getting better with time.

Catch a Sporting Event

Denver stadium skyline at sunset, cheering crowd, city skyline and mountains in background

Denver is among the few cities in the U.S. which have teams in all four major sports. Broncos are located at Empower Field at Mile High, Nuggets and Avalanche are located at Ball arena, Rockies are located at Coors Field in LoDo, and Rapids are located at Dick sporting good park. The bars and restaurants are overfilled with people enjoying game days in LoDo which are an experience on their own.

Coors field is to be mentioned particularly since it is among the most scenic ball parks in America. The rooftop terrace overlooks mountains, and the 20th row of the upper deck is designated in purple just at the 5,280 feet high point. A Rockies game is one of the fun things to do in Denver even when one is not a sports enthusiast. The ambiance is casual, the brew mix is excellent and the mountains sunset view on the upper deck is indefeasible. It is not difficult to find out what to do Denver on a summer evening when the Rockies are in town.

Nightlife and Speakeasies

Hidden speakeasy bar interior, dim lighting, craft cocktail on marble bar, vintage decor

The speakeasy scene is highly underestimated in Denver. LoHi Williams and Graham conceals himself behind a book shelf door. Retrograde is found by the means of a freezer door located behind an ice cream shop, which was quite disorienting the first time. The RiNo scene was introduced to the world class cocktails provided by Death and Co, a well-known transplant in NYC. The Cruise Room, the art deco lounge, which is located within the Oxford Hotel, has undergone very little modifications since the prohibition was lifted.

In the case of live music, Mission Ballroom in RiNo is the best equipped, and Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox offers a mix of brunch and live music in a beautiful old building. There are two locations of Comedy Works that are nationally recognized. These are among the fun things to do denver that tourists go back time and again to. The nightlife is surprisingly rich in a city of this extent and it is significantly less pretentious than that which can be found in bigger metros.

Unique and Unusual Things to Do in Denver

Surreal Denver experiences, rainbow murals at International Church of Cannabis, RiNo street art, Big Blue Bear, bold colors, immersive

Denver has its secrets, but they are truly weird things to do in Denver and in the best possible sense. These destinations are not just another tourist checklist and provide you with the actual stories to share with you back home. Whenever you are seeking something special to do in the city of Denver during the weekend, you can count on any of them.

International Church of Cannabis

Psychedelic rainbow mural interior, 360-degree laser light show

Artist Okuda San Miguel has turned this former Lutheran church into a mind bending visual spectacle of rainbow geometric murals on every wall. The 360 degree psychedelic laser light show is approximately 25 dollars and is indeed unlike any other show I have attended in any of the cities. It is among the most unusual things to do in Denver and must visit when an individual loves the immersion aspect of art or simply wishes to experience something unique.

Hammond’s Candy Factory

Candy factory production line, handmade candy canes, colorful sweets

Free tours of this almost 100 years old candy factory allow you to observe candy cane and lollipop production processes that are done manually. It is candy, nostalgic, and among the best cute activities in Denver. It is very popular with kids but really speaking the adults are equally thrilled as the kids watching taffy being pulled in machines that probably belong in a museum. Free samples at the end are also welcome.

Blucifer at Denver International Airport

32-foot blue mustang statue with glowing red eyes, dramatic sky backdrop

The 32 feet blue mustang figure with flaming red eyes welcomes any visitor who comes to Denver International Airport. The statue is referred to as Blucifer by the locals, and the story behind it is indeed a dark story: It hit and killed the installation team artist, Luis Jimenez. Along with the conspiracy theory around the airport that has spawned murals and underground tunnels, DIA is among the cool things in Denver that one can enjoy before even picking up the bags.

RiNo Mural Tour and FlyteCo Tower

Rooftop view from former air traffic control tower, sunset skyline panorama

One of the activities in Denver that are completely free of charge includes a self guided walking tour through the ever changing street art in RiNo. The new murals are hung on a seasonal basis, and thus it is not the same each time, and is well worth returning to. FlyteCo Tower is the former Denver Airport air traffic control tower turned into a restaurant and a brewery located nearby, where one can also have tours of the tower every weekend, especially during sunset. The top-level opinions are breathtaking. These combined are a dream afternoon of Denver fun activities.

Family Friendly Denver Activities

Family at Denver Zoo, Dinosaur Ridge, Children’s Museum, joyful kids, bright sunny day, interactive exhibits

Denver is family-friendly surprisingly. Whenever I am asked by people to recommend anything to do in the Denver city with kids, I have a good rotation list that will ensure everyone is happy without one of them breaking down. The following are the highlights that really work.

Denver Zoo

“Family walking through Denver Zoo on a sunny day, giraffes and elephants in background, lush green pathways, vibrant colors, candid travel photography style”

The Denver Zoo hosts more than 4,000 animals and has a rule of entry which is timed this is why I suggest that people reserve their tickets online beforehand. Adults cost approximately 20 dollars, children approximately 14 dollars. The Zoo Lights event in winter is really magical, and it is not an exception since it is one of the most popular holiday traditions in Denver. This is among the most relaxing and smooth activities to arrange around in Denver colorado by families.

Children’s Museum and Downtown Aquarium

“Kids playing in interactive science exhibits at Children’s Museum of Denver, bright playful interior, cut to family dining inside Downtown Aquarium surrounded by massive fish tanks

Children Museum Denver at Marsico Campus is an interactive one and very child friendly. Free Joy Park Nights (happening every third Friday of the month, May through September) is a win since it is a low-cost event. The Downtown Aquarium has a capacity of more than one million gallons of water and more than half a thousand species. You even get to dine at the restaurant that is encircled by floor to ceiling fish tanks. Both are things to do in Denver that in fact keep little ones amused hours upon hours.

Dinosaur Ridge and Water World

“Child pointing excitedly at dinosaur footprints embedded in red rock at Dinosaur Ridge, sunny Colorado sky, split scene with thrilling water slides

Morrison has the dinosaur Ridge which is the top dinosaur site in America with the actual fossils and footprints that are still accessible in the rock. The first time we went there, my nephew was literally uncontrolling himself, and was pointing at every single track, seemingly having discovered it himself. One of the biggest water parks in the country, Water World, is expanding in 2026 under the Summit Canyon expansion with the first HIVE waterslide in Colorado.

Another thing to consider: the Denver CityPASS is a discount that can save up to 45% on three to five top attractions in Denver Colorado in seven days, which becomes expensive quickly when a family is involved. In case you are a family traveler, the Puerto Rico attractions will present an absolute contrast yet equally great experience to both children and adults.

Best Day Trips from Denver

Scenic Colorado landscapes, Flatirons in Boulder, Garden of the Gods, Rocky Mountain National Park

The Denver Colorado area has some of the best things to do near Denver Colorado which only involve a short trip to the mountains or foothills. All these day trips take a maximum of 90 minutes to reach the city and each of them is well worth the gas. They are also included in the list of things to do in Denver that will provide a glimpse of the Colorado natural beauty besides the Denver tourist attractions in the city.

Boulder and the Flatirons

“Hikers at Chautauqua Park with dramatic Flatirons rock formations towering above, golden sunlight, vibrant blue sky, cinematic Colorado landscape

Boulder is approximately 35-50 minutes of Denver and it seems like a new world. Chautauqua Park has the Flatirons where hiking is done with breathtaking views. Pearl Street Mall is very good in shopping and eating. During summer time, Boulder Creek tubing is a rite of passage that I ensure I visit at least once in a year. Boulder is the most fulfilling and least challenging day trip things to do around Denver Colorado.

Garden of the Gods

Towering red sandstone formations at Garden of the Gods with bright blue sky, scenic train climbing Pikes Peak in distance, epic mountain photography

The Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs is some 75 minutes south of there and totally free to visit. The high red sandstone structures contrasting the blue sky are alien and also are very beautiful to capture at any time of the day. TripAdvisor has described it as the best park in this country. Combine it with a ride on the newly-refurbished Pikes Peak Cog Railway that ascends the mountain to an altitude of 14,115 feet, in America. They are both attractions in the vicinity of Denver that make a lasting impact. These are truly one of the best side trips to visit in Denver area.

Georgetown Loop Railroad and Golden

“Historic steam train crossing high bridge in Rocky Mountains, autumn foliage, vintage travel aesthetic, cut to Golden Colorado with mountain backdrop and small-town charm”

The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a 1884 narrow gauge train some 45 minutes west of Denver that is historic. It has a corkscrew route that is famous crossing Devil’s Gate High Bridge that during its use is thrilling even to adults. The Idaho Springs area has Indian Hot Springs and the famous franchise of Beau Jo Colorado stylePizza. Golden is within a 20 minute radius and the home to Coors Brewery with free tours in the largest single site brewery in the world with a view of the lookouts mountain.

The closest is Rocky Mountain National Park that is approximately 90 minutes with 265,000 acres and 355 miles of trails, but they need timed entry permit during the months between May and October. Note 2026: Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway, the highest routable in North America, has been closed since September 2024 due to the necessary construction work and is expected to open on the Memorial Day weekend of 2026. These are among the top things to do denver as an outdoors person.

Free Things to Do in Denver

“Modern architecture of Denver Art Museum under blue sky, transition to hikers at Red Rocks Park overlooking city skyline, vibrant daytime city adventure”

When to Visit Denver: A Seasonal Guide

When to Visit Denver: A Seasonal Guide The most frequent question that I keep being asked is what to do in Denver during the various seasons of the year

The most frequent question that I keep being asked is what to do in Denver during the various seasons of the year. The fact is, it is easy to do things in Denver in may as it is in December. The following is a brief seasonal break down.

Spring (March-May): Red Rocks concert door opens, cherry blossoms fill parks in the city, the Rockies open their home season and the Denver Colfax Marathon is held in May. The temperatures are between 50s and 70s. It is my touring period to see Denver colorado things to do outdoors. It is ideal to sightsee Denver during spring since the weather is mild, and the crowds are yet to come.

Summer (June, August): High season of all. There is red rocking and festival in full blast. This prime time is made up of Film on the Rocks, Cherry Creek Arts Festival, free concerts at the Levitt Pavilion, and 300+ days of sunshine. Highs reach the mid 80s to low 90s. The list of fun activities to do in Colorado during summer in adults is virtually limitless.

Fall (September through November): The Great American Beer Festival finds its way in October. In September, Denver Oktoberfest is filling the Ballpark District. In mid September and at the beginning of October, Aspen bushes on the Guanella Pass and the Kenosha Pass peaks are stunning. Halloween is augmented by the 13th Floor Haunted House and Fright Fest in Elitch Gardens. Fall may be even the best kept secret season.

Winter (December through February): Loveland, Winter Park, Keystone, and Breckenridge have winter joys in the form of world class skiing within 60 to 90 minutes. Denver Christkindlmarket is 25 years old in Tivoli Quad. The season is topped off by Zoo Lights, Blossoms of Light, Mile High Drone Shows with 600 drones in 41 nights and free urban skiing at Ruby Hill. Denver has much more ideas on what to do in the winter than one could ever imagine.

Note important in 2026: This year is the 150th anniversary of the statehood of Colorado, and the 250th anniversary of America overall, and the entire year is filled with celebrations around Denver.

Practical Tips for Visiting Denver

“Denver Union Station interior with travelers and natural light, modern transit hub, cut to Coors Field baseball stadium with purple row

Denver is at an altitude of 5, 280 feet and the altitude is not fictitious. The first two days drink twice what you usually drink, be sensitive in alcohol consumption since it is more effective up here, and use sunscreen all year round since the UV rays are much higher here at elevation. This is what I found out my very first week here. When you are performing any Denver co activities, make sure that you start the process of physical activity gradually.

Travelling is not as hard as most people believe. The RTD A Line will get one to the Union Station in 37 min at a cost of 10.50. FreeRide shuttle is free and it serves 16 th Street. There are bike share stations and electric scooters of B cycle all around downtown. The airport lies 25 or more miles away in the city, and therefore keep additional time to commute. Fun fact: the row of Coors Field upper deck which is in the 20th row is engraved in purple, since this row is the one that is at a readymade one mile above the sea level. Denver top attractions are also well connected by transport given prior planning. Admittedly, the destinations on the list of places to visit in Denver are more reachable than many individuals would without a vehicle.
